SAFA MARWA TRANSPORT
The infrastructure and techniques that enable pilgrims to travel between the hills of Safa and Marwa during the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage ceremonies in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, are referred to as the Safa and Marwa transit system. In order to honor Hagar’s quest for water for her baby Ishmael, this trek, called Sa’i, entails walking or racing back and forth between these two hills seven times.
There are currently a number of amenities in the area between Safa and Marwa to help pilgrims, particularly the aged and disabled:
- Motorized Walkways and Escalators: To make traveling between Safa and Marwa easier, there are dedicated routes with motorized walkways and escalators.
- Wheelchair Services: In addition to electric scooters and designated walkways for wheelchair users, wheelchairs may be rented. Workers and volunteers are frequently on hand to support anyone who want wheelchair assistance.
- Air-Conditioned Areas: To combat the heat, the whole Sa’i region has air conditioning, and there are obvious signs directing traffic between Safa and Marwa.
- Electric Carts: It is possible to hire electric carts for pilgrims who are elderly or crippled. Usually, these are located on the higher floors.
- Guidance and Assistance: To ensure the safety and comfort of every pilgrim, staff members and helpers are positioned along the path to offer general assistance and assistance with instructions.
Given the large number of pilgrims who conduct the Sa’i rite, the improvements guarantee that it will always be available, secure, and comfortable.
