Fourth-party logistics, commonly known as 4PL, signifies an advanced level of expertise in supply chain management. This operational framework within the logistics industry involves delegating the comprehensive management of one’s supply chain to an external service provider.
In contrast to third-party logistics (3PL), which concentrates on particular logistics functions, 4PL providers take on the responsibility of managing and coordinating the entire supply chain.
4PLs serve as the sole point of contact for the company, interfacing with various logistics service providers. Additionally, these organizations operate independently and are non-asset-based integrators of customer supply chains and demand chains.
